At the scene, ask for the name, address and cell phone number of the claimant and all parties. Get a picture of their insurance card, so you have a copy of that information if possible.
Take pictures of the vehicles involved, as well as the accident scene. If possible, try and get pictures from different angles as it helps to paint a clearer picture of what happened.
Make a diagram of how the accident happened and the surroundings.
When you contact your insurance carrier, provide them with the correct vehicle involved in the accident, including the last four digits of the Vehicle ID Number (VIN).
Who was the driver of your vehicle?
List where the accident occurred, including streets and the city.
What are the details of the accident and whom do you feel was at fault?
Was a Police Report completed? If so, what is the report number and when will it be available? Police reports could take up to 14 days to become available in some cities.
Let your insurance company know the extent of the damage, either with an estimate from an auto body shop or what you think the damage is monetarily.
Were there any injuries at the scene? If so, what was the severity of the injuries?
